Above is an ‘up close’ shot of a ‘personal’ treasure. It once belonged to my Great Aunt/Godmother, Octavia. As a kid, one of my favorite summertime treats was having Aunt Tate come visit. I would sit with her on the guest bed each morning and we would talk about anything and everything, while she would apply her makeup, tease her hair and adorn herself with jewelry. Aunt Tate passed away in February of 1989, and all of her belongings were passed down to my Mother and me. Tate never had any children of her own. Being that I was young and just married, I had my Mom hold onto everything and it wasn’t until my Mother passed away earlier this year, that I actually took possession of the items. Both my Godmother and Mother were spoiled with amazing jewels, and I love that my Mom had three daughters to pass all of her beautiful belongings to. I actually chose this ring to photograph, because it’s very ornate and that was my prompt earlier in the week for my daily project with Project Life 365.
I shot this photo with my iphone 4 using the olloclip macro lens. It was morning and there was natural light flowing through the window. All of my editing was done in snapseed. I cropped, sharpened, brightened and changed the photo to black and white tones.
“I take photographs with love, so I try to make them art objects. But I make them for myself first and foremost – that is important.”~ Jacques-Henri Lartigue
