Some things are always a constant, and with boys, both young and old, one of those favorite past times is most definitely wrestling in some form or another. Whether it’s pouncing on the unsuspecting friend or relative that happens to be lounging on the floor, play fighting like puppies with buddies during a sleepover, tackling on the football field with pads on, or crashing around in an inflatable jousting ring at a carnival, boys are just naturally combative. This past Saturday afternoon was the big annual fundraiser for my youngest son Will’s elementary school, a carnival called Sharkfest, and it was the place to be in Kingwood. They moved onto middle school 2 years ago, but Jack and his best friend Foster still looked forward to going to the event this year and Jack was particularly keen on trying out this jousting attraction. Jack is to the right, and Foster is on top of the inflatable island… it was fun to watch and fun to capture an image with my camera. Yet another great way to document our family day-to-day.
It’s been a gorgeous, bright sunny day, and it was blazing at 3:30 in the afternoon when I took this photograph. I used my Canon DSLR paired with my 17-55mm f/2.8 lens which I hoped would give me some versatility with shooting. I set my ISO at 100, my shutter speed was 1/640, and my aperture was f/3.2. In retrospect, my shutter speed could’ve been a little higher as some of the highlights were definitely blown out in the picture. Post processing in Lightroom 4, I converted the image to black and white, then reduced the exposure and the highlights. I also increased the contrast and clarity and slightly decreased the blacks and shadows.
